Reality Check!

          Often I see people around me who are 24*7 busy in chatting and text-ing and posting stuff about themselves on the net and elsewhere ...somewhere i feel they're basking in the glory of their self-made illusion of popularity...and are proud of the long list of friends... but the fact is that they are alone and these sites are just a way to escape the reality!

          Whatsapp, Facebook, Viber,Twitter, BBM, Hike, WeChat... etc, Its a never-ending list of Social networking sites and text messaging apps that have literally made the distance between people almost Invisible. We're all online and connected 24*7*365 days! The main purpose of these apps and sites was to bring people close, to keep them updated about things happening in the lives of their closed ones, it was meant to bridge the distance... No matter which part of the world you're in you can still be in-touch.

          But sometimes I wonder the need for these platforms and apps? Do we really 'connect' with people? Do we really 'like' the things happening in their lives or do it just for the sake of showing that you are 'socially active'? Have we really bridged the 'distance'?

          Having millions of friends or followers, or maybe a long list of contact, many groups that you're part of in one of those 'cool' text messaging apps ...really makes you happy? Many people do boast about the fact that they have 'so many' freinds on social networking sites and 'so many' followers and they think that their so popular! But one question has been in my head for a long time now!

          Do you really feel that all of these friends and followers wish the best for you? Do they really care? Are they really bothered about whats happening in your life ? do you really feel loved ? Are we really getting close to our near and dear ones? or is the distance just increasing day-by-day...?

          I don't think millions of friends and followers or a long list of contacts, however influential, may bring you the real happiness and joy to your heart. Even if you're among a group of people, you will still feel alone ...but sometimes, being with just one person or even talking to that person makes your day, makes you feel alive and instills in you the want of living for yet another day!

          Millions of likes on your posts or pictures, the never-ending compliments, etc can never match up to a kind word by someone who's very dear to you. Even if you receive thousands of compliments on your picture or status or any random post, at the end of the day, it is just that ONE person whose opinion matters the most... and you'll be waiting for that person to give his/her opinion about it. *Really*

          Sometimes it happens with most of us, that people who are on your 'friend' list are around you, but you hardly talk, we don't even bother to acknowledge their presence, we avoid each other, this all just seems weird and vague.

          These confession pages are a great way to tell things you don't have the guts to say up-front to someone, but in your life you'll always have someone who is your confession page, to whom you'll run up ASAP and tell every tiny bit of detail of everything that happened to you, every little secret, every story, the reason behind your mood-swings, the reason for feeling low, with whom you can talk anything and everything ....

            We may feel alone in a crowd or feel lonely even with a single person, all that matters is that one person with whom you can be yourself, you can be YOU! Someone who accepts you as you are, doesn't put you down with their expectations,  just loves you and doesn't expect anything in return. Keep that person always with you and never let go off that person, Because they'll stand by you in good times and in bad times and will hold your hand through this journey called ...Life!

            Its high time we start 'connecting' with people around us first and then think of those who are far away! Keep smiling! Stay happy!

P.s:- I am not saying these sites and apps are bad, but all that I am trying to say is we have changed its real meaning. Just to get close with people who are far away from us, we have distanced ourselves from those around us, those who are just a call away, few minutes away and just a 'HELLO' away from us! Think about it!

And yes! Feedback/criticism are always welcome. :)

  1. Very True very True. You said a great thing,
    Its high time we start 'connecting' with people around us first and then think of those who are far away!

    This reminds me of a very nice Gujarati word Sparsh Touching lives of people around us.

    You know why you were able to write this , because you know Jesus,
    he teaches us to touch the lives of people around us. He has touched us, hugged us loved us and promised us that he would be by our side till the end of the world,.
    it also reminds me of the wonderful song
    What a friend we have in Jesus,
    all our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    everything to God in prayer!
    O what peace we often forfeit,
    O what needless pain we bear,
    all because we do not carry
    everything to God in prayer.

    2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
    take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Can we find a friend so faithful
    who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness;
    take it to the Lord in prayer.

    3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge;
    take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
    thou wilt find a solace there.
